Biography

Laurent Bouzereau is the director/co-producer of the Netflix series Five Came Back, executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Scott Rudin, Barry Diller and Amblin Television, based on the best-selling book by Mark Harris, and narrated by Meryl Streep. The documentary features Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo Del Toro, Paul Greengrass, Lawrence Kasdan, and Steven Spielberg. Thomas Newman wrote the score for the opening and end credits. Named one of the top 50 leaders in the field of New Media by The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker/author Laurent Bouzereau is one of the most sought-after talents in the industry.

Bouzereau is executive producing with Sherri Crichton for CrichtonSun LLC, an adaptation of Michael Crichton’s MICRO at DreamWorks Studios, with Frank Marshall as producer as well as the television series DRAGON TEETH based on the book by Crichton, for Amblin Television, Sony TV and National Geographic Channel.

Bouzereau is attached to direct  BAD LITTLE KID, based on a short story by Stephen King and is the co-producer of the Feel Good Fiction / BBC Radio program THE BLIND MAN, based on an un-produced script by Ernest Lehman and Alfred Hitchcock.

Most recently, Bouzereau directed and produced the behind-the-scenes documentaries on Steven Spielberg’s THE BFG and THE SECRETS OF THE FORCE AWAKENS: A CINEMATIC JOURNEY for J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm and Disney.

Bouzereau wrote, directed and produced the TCM/Amblin Television series A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES. Episodes include GEORGE LUCAS AND THE WORLD OF FANTASY CINEMA,  THE HORRORS OF STEPHEN KING, HOLLYWOOD GOES TO WASHINGTON, THE GIGANTIC WORLD OF EPICS, THE SUSPENSEFUL WORLD OF THRILLERS, MERRY CHRISTMAS and COPS & ROBBERS AND CRIME WRITERS.

Among other recent projects, Bouzereau directed for Sony Classical STEVEN SPIELBERG & JOHN WILLIAMS: THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES, as well as the behind-the-scenes documentaries on Steven Spielberg’s READY PLAYER ONE, THE BFG, BRIDGE OF SPIES and THE SECRETS OF THE FORCE AWAKENS: A CINEMATIC JOURNEY for J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm, and Disney. Bouzereau won a Silver Key Art Award for his documentary on Steve McQueen’s Academy Award winning film 12 YEARS A SLAVE.

Born and raised in France, Bouzereau moved to New York in the early 1980s and worked in several areas of the independent film industry. During this time he also wrote his first book, THE DE PALMA CUT, a study of the films of director Brian De Palma. Bouzereau moved to Hollywood, California in 1990 and worked in feature film development for Bette Midler at Disney Studios, while continuing his passion for writing books on cinema.

In 1994, Bouzereau wrote, directed and produced his first of many documentaries for Steven Spielberg, hence joining the home entertainment revolution. Bouzereau has directed, written and produced hundreds of documentaries on the “making of” the biggest films in the history of cinema, by some of the most acclaimed directors of all-time, including: Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, James Cameron, J.J. Abrams, Alfred Hitchcock, David Lean, Martin Scorsese, Brian De Palma, William Friedkin, Robert Zemeckis, Warren Beatty, Roman Polanski,  Michael Crichton, Peter Bogdanovich and others.

As an author, Bouzereau’s credits include HITCHCOCK: PIECE BY PIECE, THE ART OF BOND, STAR WARS: THE ANNOTATED SCREENPLAYS, THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR, ULTRA VIOLENT MOVIES and others. He also contributed to LINCOLN: A CINEMATIC AND HISTORICAL COMPANION.

Bouzereau currently resides in West Hollywood, CA.
